Sculptra Treatments in London: Restore Facial Volume Naturally

A close-up image of a woman with her eyes closed, receiving a facial examination or treatment. She has smooth skin and is wearing a white headband. A person wearing white medical gloves is gently touching her forehead and temple, suggesting a clinical or cosmetic procedure in a sterile environment. The background is softly blurred, creating a calm and professional atmosphere.

Skin and facial volume naturally change with age, with semaglutide weight loss drugs and in a number of medical conditions. Time and the environment take a toll, and fine lines, wrinkles, and facial sagging become increasingly common as one ages.

Increasing numbers of people are taking semaglutide (Ozempic) and other similar GLP-1 analogue weight-loss injections, which give them a gaunt facial appearance with facial hollowing and dull, sallow skin. This has become the number one reason to request Sculptra treatment.

The face is the first place where weight falls off as we age or try to lose our “middle-aged spread” around the abdomen, whether naturally or with the assistance of weight-loss injections. Sculptra treatment has the power to reverse those effects. It smooths fine lines, fills hollow areas, and restores lost facial volume. It is used to target areas of volume loss. It rejuvenates the face in a natural and minimally invasive way. It does this slowly and progressively by bio-stimulating the collagen of the dermal and deep facial tissue. Sculptra, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), is not to be regarded as a filler in the conventional sense, as its effect is not immediate volume replenishment, but a gradual, assured increase in facial volume and improvement of skin quality with time.

You can enjoy the benefits of Sculptra treatment in London here at Clinica London. Our award-winning team of specialists offer personalised care and carries out Sculptra injections to top London Harley Street standards. With a proven record of success and an accessible Central London location, Clinica London is the leading choice in specialist skin and aesthetic facial care support for both men and women.

If you are not fully satisfied with your outward appearance, or you may feel that your facial features no longer reflect your inner self because of weight loss or ageing, making your face thin and with sunken areas, you should investigate the benefits of Sculptra facial treatment. Sculptra is the answer: with long-lasting effects that appear gradually and naturally, combined with other benefits, like minimal downtime, it is one of the most effective ways to restore facial volume and definition, and a healthier and more youthful-looking appearance. It is ideal for and could have been designed to correct facial changes due to rapid weight loss or ageing.

Sculptra is FDA approved, initially in 20024 for HIV facial lipoatrophy, and later for facial wrinkles, folds, and specifically cheek wrinkles.

Understanding Sculptra and Its Benefits

Sculptra is NOT a dermal filler like Hyaluronate as it is an injectable poly L-lactic acid (PLLA) which specifically stimulates deep facial collagen production to help restore lost facial volume and reduce overlying wrinkles. As poly-L-lactic acid, it has been used in medicine for over 40 years to help restore facial volume where it has been lost because of loss of body fat and age, or systemic disease. It helps boost facial volume in a natural way, such that the patient does not look artificially filled, as can happen with some hyaluronate fillers.

Dermal fillers are injected into the skin or just under the skin. They bring various benefits, typically focusing on filling in areas that have lost their prior shape or volume. A lot of fillers use hyaluronic acid as their core ingredient. Yet Sculptra is different because it acts in a different way, and provides a slow, gentle approach to facial volume restoration and skin quality improvement. It is made of poly-L-lactic acid. This allows it to provide more than what the typical hyaluronate filler does. Sculptra stimulates collagen without the risks of hyaluronate gel filler migration, puffiness, and an artificial-looking overfill. Sculptra treatment provides a very natural appearance and is most suitable for men and women over the age of 50 years, looking for long-lasting effects.

The history of Sculptra goes back a long way. Originally known as “New-Fill,” this treatment was first launched in Europe in the 1990s. It was initially used to restore the facial volume and symmetry in specific medical cases, including patients’ facial fat atrophy from HIV. Over time, a much broader audience began to see the aesthetic benefits of Sculptra, and it is now a popular and leading solution for natural, non-surgical facial rejuvenation in men and women.

How Sculptra Differs from Dermal Fillers

Sculptra does more than traditional hyaluronate gel fillers. Conventional fillers fill the face to restore volume and smooth hollow or sagging areas, such as drooping brows or under-eye bags. Sculptra, however, acts as a collagen stimulator, as well as indirectly as a filler. It encourages the body to produce more collagen, where it is deficient.

With increased collagen formation, the patient experiences a wider range of visible benefits, including fuller, smoother, and more youthful-looking and feeling skin. It helps reduce the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines while filling in areas that have lost their initial volume over time. This also leads to longer-lasting results than most fillers, with more natural, gradual improvements.

Sculptra is suitable for improving volume and appearance of the cheeks, temples, nasolabial lines, lower face and even when used very gently in dilute form in the periorbital region by our Oculoplastic Surgeon, Ms Jane Olver, to assist the tear troughs. The bespoke treatments by Jane Olver are called SculptFace and SculptEyes.

The Sculptra Treatment Process at Clinica London

As a leading Sculptra treatment centre in the UK, Clinica London begins all new treatment journeys with an initial consultation and assessment with the Sculptra oculoplastic specialist, Ms Jane Olver. With over 15 years of experience in injecting Sculptra, she is the go-to person for your Sculptra treatment.

During the consultation, she will assess your face and skin, and you can learn more about the procedure, ask questions, and outline your objectives to confirm that Sculptra is the right choice for you. You can then schedule a treatment date that fits your schedule.

Treatment is not done on the day of assessment. The Sculptra has to be prepared at least a day before treatment so that it is ready for use on that particular treatment day. Hence, pre-payment for treatment is always taken, as the vials are prepared specifically for you, the patient.

On the day of treatment, your Sculptra specialist, Jane Olver, will prepare and clean the face. She may also apply a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the area or inject small amounts of local anaesthetic at the proposed injection entry sites. You will not feel any pain or discomfort with Sculptra treatment. Not least, Sculptra has a local anaesthetic solution mixed in with it. The specialist Jane Olver will inject the Sculptra into each site of volume concern, using a very fine needle or, more often, with a cannula inserted through a single skin point of entry, such as on the cheek. A typical Sculptra treatment session lasts around 30 to 45 minutes, and this procedure does not involve any lengthy or complex recovery. You can leave the clinic right away and resume most regular activities immediately. However, you will experience some light bruising at the injection sites and initial swelling in the treated areas. It is best to avoid any strenuous activities for the first day or two.

Any bruising or initial discomfort after the procedure should subside within a few days. Post-treatment swelling rapidly subsides over 12 days, as it is initially present due to the saline, water, and local anaesthetic carrier for the poly-L-lactic acid particles. If swelling persists longer or you notice any other symptoms or side effects, contact your specialist.
You will be asked to massage the treated areas of your face and period area several times a day for six weeks, which helps prevent nodules and develop normal, smooth contours and fill.

Typically, the number of vials injected depends on age, medical condition and extent of the volume loss. Usually two treatment sessions are scheduled, 8 weeks apart.

Ms Jane Olver may also schedule further follow-up appointments and future injections, which should reinforce and bolster the treatment benefits. This is dependent on your age, amount of volume loss, i.e. what is clinically required.

What to Expect During and After the Procedure

You should not experience any notable pain or discomfort during the procedure. You may just notice a light pinch or feeling of pressure as the needle penetrates the skin, along with some mild sensitivity after the procedure, with the volume swelling for a few hours. Once that swelling settles within 12 hours, you will not see the results immediately, as the biostimulation is gradual, starting from 6 to 8 weeks after treatment, and progressively improving facial volume and skin quality over the first six months. It is important to understand that, unlike Hyaluronic gel fillers, it takes a few weeks for the benefits of Sculptra to start to appear.

Ideal Candidates for Sculptra Injections

Many people can benefit from Sculptra treatment, particularly those who have lost weight from GLP-1 against weight-reducing injections, have noticed the signs of ageing, or the impacts of the environment on their facial volume and skin. Sculptra treatment helps with issues like wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, hollow cheeks, jowls, and nasolabial folds, among others. It helps reduce the visibility of wrinkles and lines, soften contours, and elevate recessed or sunken skin areas. And it does this in an extraordinary way, giving a natural volumised appearance.

Most people, regardless of age or skin type, should be suitable for this treatment.

Currently the age group who will most benefit from Sculptra treatment are the 40 to 80 age group, both men and women.

Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty) 6

Most visible benefits tend to be seen in patients aged 50 to 80, with the peak age of starting treatment being 55 years. This corresponds to when the patients become concerned about their weight, and hormonal changes occur, and subsequently, when collagen levels decline. However, older individuals can also see notable improvements, merely requiring more vials to obtain the necessary collagen stimulation. The only patients who may not be suitable for Sculptra are those with a strong history of allergies, known autoimmune disorders, or active inflammatory conditions, where the risks and benefits of treatment should be openly discussed at the initial consultation.

Tailored Aesthetic Treatments for Individuals Aged 65 to 80

Elderly patients seeking aesthetic treatments to address recent weight loss or age-related volume loss and skin laxity may opt for Sculptra injections, which are strongly preferred over hyaluronate gel fillers. Since it not only fills areas of volume loss but also stimulates collagen production, it can provide clearer benefits for older patients whose natural collagen levels are very low. It can treat hollow temples, under-eye bags, loss of volume in the cheeks, and other issues.
