Dermal fillers are injected into the skin or just under the skin. They bring various benefits, typically focusing on filling in areas that have lost their prior shape or volume. A lot of fillers use hyaluronic acid as their core ingredient. Yet Sculptra is different because it acts in a different way, and provides a slow, gentle approach to facial volume restoration and skin quality improvement. It is made of poly-L-lactic acid. This allows it to provide more than what the typical hyaluronate filler does. Sculptra stimulates collagen without the risks of hyaluronate gel filler migration, puffiness, and an artificial-looking overfill. Sculptra treatment provides a very natural appearance and is most suitable for men and women over the age of 50 years, looking for long-lasting effects.
The history of Sculptra goes back a long way. Originally known as “New-Fill,” this treatment was first launched in Europe in the 1990s. It was initially used to restore the facial volume and symmetry in specific medical cases, including patients’ facial fat atrophy from HIV. Over time, a much broader audience began to see the aesthetic benefits of Sculptra, and it is now a popular and leading solution for natural, non-surgical facial rejuvenation in men and women.
How Sculptra Differs from Dermal Fillers
Sculptra does more than traditional hyaluronate gel fillers. Conventional fillers fill the face to restore volume and smooth hollow or sagging areas, such as drooping brows or under-eye bags. Sculptra, however, acts as a collagen stimulator, as well as indirectly as a filler. It encourages the body to produce more collagen, where it is deficient.
With increased collagen formation, the patient experiences a wider range of visible benefits, including fuller, smoother, and more youthful-looking and feeling skin. It helps reduce the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines while filling in areas that have lost their initial volume over time. This also leads to longer-lasting results than most fillers, with more natural, gradual improvements.
Sculptra is suitable for improving volume and appearance of the cheeks, temples, nasolabial lines, lower face and even when used very gently in dilute form in the periorbital region by our Oculoplastic Surgeon, Ms Jane Olver, to assist the tear troughs. The bespoke treatments by Jane Olver are called SculptFace and SculptEyes.
